Now you see it. Now you don't.

A few weeks ago, I shared a look around our not-so-white white living room that was in the (slow) process of getting some fresh paint.

 Update: it's still not done as we still have some windows and the ceiling to paint.

I also shared my plans to mask the TV on the built-ins by building doors that mimic the smaller ones below it that hide the cable box and other wires.

To remind you, here was the before:

I can't take all of the credit. 

I may have been the brains behind the operation but Chris made it happen, although they were pretty easy to build. All it took was some wood from Home Depot, some cutting and drilling, and paint. We were even to able to find the exact same hardware as the bottom doors.

Now, the TV is discretely tucked away except for when any one of the Real Housewives series is on (my guilty pleasure).

Next up for this space is to work on accessorizing and styling the shelves, which have turned out to be harder for me than I thought they would.

The tray that keeps transforming

I love how trays pull together odds and ends, which is why this tray (that I previously made over and shared here) is back out again on our coffee table with a new look.

I traded the Ikat fabric for this striped one that I picked up for $4 a half-yard at a local fabric store. Then, I re-painted the wood part of the tray with a combination of Annie Sloan's Old White and Pure White.

Lastly, I wrapped some rope around the handles and secured the ends with a hot glue gun.

So easy to do and cost me next to nothing!

The tray is accessorized with some left over Valentine's Day roses, a mini coffee table book, coasters, a Pottery Barn candle pillar I picked up at a church sale, and one of my DIY matchboxes.

Wallet friendly finds

Who doesn't like a wallet friendly find? 

Below I'm sharing 3 things I've purchased lately that you might like as well.

The colors in this throw blanket are even prettier in person. I can't decide whether to put it in our bedroom or family room! Maybe I'll even use it to make throw pillows?

This (reversible!) mint tote has me counting the days down until spring. The peach color is really nice too. I like that it is big enough to hold all my stuff including diapers and wipes.

Project pop of color

There's no denying that when it comes to decorating I'm a lover of neutrals.

Sometimes it is me playing it safe because I have a fear of investing in brightly colored pieces only to grow tired of them too quickly. 

But mostly it's just that I find a neutral palette soothing and timeless. 

That's not to say I don't love color. 

I swear I do!

In fact, while recently helping a friend who isn't afraid of color decorate a few of her living spaces (most recently her kitchen nook), I've become inspired to add some pops of color in our kitchen nook.

I'm realizing that it will be easy to do without making drastic expensive changes.

Here's my plan...

1. Add new colorful throw pillows to the built-in seat.

These are in my shopping cart. 

I'm just waiting for Chris to look the other way before buying them (shhh).

2. Add color to the large jars on the built-in shelves.

Wasabi peas will add some green to the area.

Now, where to buy enough wasabi peas to fill my gigantic jar?

3. Throw some cloth napkins with color into the wire baskets on the built-ins.

 4. Frame a print with color in it.

I can swap out the chalkboard monogram print currently on the shelf with a print with green in it like this one below.
