Hi Caitlin, I recently moved into a rental, and while the color is "OK," (a medium gray color), it does not excite me...So I would like to paint the walls.
I have never painted a wall in my life, would you have any tips for me? Also, since it's a rental, and I'm only there for a year, would you even recommend painting at all? Is it a very time-consuming process?
Thank you!
P.S. I did ask my landlord if painting was okay...he said fine, as long as the colors weren't too crazy.
Hi Bean :) I painted almost all of the rooms in our last place that we rented for only a year so obviously I am someone that would recommend painting. As for is time-consuming, it depends on how big the room is, how high the ceilings are, and if it requires a lot of "cutting in" with windows. If there are two of you doing it, it obviously gets done quicker. If you have some music going, cocktails, etc. it suddenly becomes more fun. You could always paint just one accent wall behind a couch or bed using a color that compliments the existing one if the thought of painting the entire room seems to be too much work (something I did in the bedroom of my first apartment after college if you remember). As for tips...hmmm, I always use painters tape for straight lines along the edges. I don't know if I have any other suggestions other than that! Good luck and let me know if you need help picking colors!
Hey Caitlin - Do you follow any other DIY interior design blogs? If you have any 'must read' blogs or ones that are similar to yours that you'd recommend I'd love to check them out :) - Jessica
On the bottom of the right side of the blog I have a list of some blogs I read. For decorating and DIY, try Emily A Clark, Honey We're Home, and City Farmhouse.
Hi! No I haven't tried any of those and don't have much knowledge of either so not sure which I would go with. We did plank a wall, which you can find under my "projects" tab. Sorry! Wish I could be more of a help.
HOI.

DeleteHi Caitlin
ReplyDeleteHave you ever tried to DIY a wall panel? Wood trimming or cornice panelling? Which would you prefer?
Thanks.
Ashley
