Sprucing up a temporary table

The hunt is ON for a dining room table.
Of course, I'd love to drop a few thousand on a really nice one from Restoration Hardware but last time I checked, money doesn't grow on trees.
Which is shame because there are a whole lot of trees where we live!

I'm not really sure the exact look of the table I want but below are a few that I have pinned on Pinterest:

The perfect dining room: A little bit of rustic with a fabulous chandelier & white crisp accents. i have this table thank to my friend Thresia..
Belmont Round Dining Table
And I definitely want to get upholstered chairs like these that I've pinned:

Safavieh Alexia Fabric Dining Chair with Nickle Nail Head  1940s French Upholstered Barrelback Chair | Fabric Arm & Side Chairs | Restoration Hardware  Churchill Upholstered Dining Chair - 4 of these?

So until the dining room table is found, we are using this table below for the time being.
Like most things in our house, it was a garage sale find for just $50.

I wasn't obsessed with how dark it looked with the chairs. There was just too much brown

Nothing a little Annie Sloan chalk paint can't fix.

The top and base took two coats of Annie Sloan's Old White.

An improvement, I think.

I decided to leave this trim the original color to add some contrast.

I also didn't distress the table too much and instead just focused on the edges.

I can't decide whether the claw feet are cool or creepy!

Either way, I think they definitely look better painted than not.

One more look at the before and after...

  1. Love the "after" look...also your guest room featured on Better After. These are my kind of makeovers :-) Simply easy, simply beautiful! I'm especially happy that after using ASCP you didn't overly distress the table. I like just a hint of distressing, as if it actually happened that way :-) Well done, well done! :-)

    1. Thanks so much Connie! I've learned (from my mom of course) that less is more so simple is the way I usually go. Thanks for visiting!

  2. Did you seal your paint with wax? How does the finish hold up to wiping off food every day?
    Thanks,

    1. Hi Heidi!
Yes I sealed the table with Annie Sloan's wax. To be honest, we don't eat at the table everyday (the two of us tend to be lazy and eat at the kitchen butcher block table). Nonetheless, the table has seen some action and is holding up just fine despite being wiped down every once and a while.
      Hope this helps!

  3. Where did you get those fabulous chairs? Do they have a brand stamped anywhere on them? I love them..... and your table re-do too!

    1. Hi Katherine! Thanks, the chairs came from a garage sale and don't have a brand on them. They are pretty cool!

  4. We have the exact same table and I just can't stand it! I have been looking for ideas on how to make it "less brown" and I have found it! Thanks so much!
