Bedtime.

When it comes to buying things for the house, I usually lust after what is currently in my favorite stores like Pottery Barn but then try to find less expensive versions elsewhere.

So was the case with the beds in our house. I had recently been eyeing the Pottery Barn Coleman bed (pictured below) for the guest bedroom but definitely did not want to spend $750 plus $150 in delivery charges.

I can't take credit for finding this less expensive version (my sister-in-law found it) from Overstock.com .
With a coupon I had, it came to just under $300! The reviews were really good, it was pretty easy to assemble, and it is sturdy and feels like good quality.

As for the master bedroom, I have always liked the Crate and Barrel Colette bed but again,
couldn't fathom spending $1800. Yikes!

But then I saw this blog post from Honey We're Home and immediately tracked down the bed on Overstock.com . This version was about a third of the cost of the Crate and Barrel bed!

I am also very happy with this bed and glad I bought it!
I can't seem to find this exact bed on the Overstock website anymore (our bed was purchased a year ago) but it is on there in a different color.

Don't you love a good (and cheaper) find?

  1. I have been swooning over the PB Coleman! Can you tell me the style name for the overstock look-a-like? Can't find it on the website. Thanks

  2. Hi! So, I checked the website and it looks like the bed is out of stock. This isn't the first time it sold out and if you contact Overstock.com and let them know you are interested in the bed, I believe they will send you an email when it is back in stock. Here's the name of the bed: ETHAN HOME Giselle Black Graceful Lines Victorian Iron Metal Bed. Hope this helps! Thanks for reading :)

    1. I love your iron bed! Is this the one? This one says it's "dark bronze." Or is yours darker?

    1. Hi! It is from Pottery Barn. It looks like it is only available in blue right now but that is still a great color. Here's the link: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/vintage-ticking-stripet-duvet-cover-sham-blue/?pkey=cguest-bedroom-shop&

You could also try searching for the tan color on Ebay.

      Thanks for reading!

    2. Thanks so much for the reply. I looked on ebay but couldn't find it in queen/full sized. I did find that Restoration Hardware sells a similar one in Ivory but it's with gray stripes instead of tan--do you think this is a good enough alternative ? I'd love your opinion!

  4. I didn't realize Restoration Hardware makes them too and they have so many color options! Yes, I do like the ivory one even if the stripes are gray instead of tan. I also really like the white. If you are still not sure, it looks like you can order a swatch of the fabric free of charge! But to answer your question, I think it is a great alternative!

  5. I love pickets! I also love white. But if you chose the trim color, it would also be nice. New to your blog and am really loving it!

  8. Does the metal bed have a box spring under the mattress? If not, what is supporting the mattress? I just repurposed an old metal bed frame but I have realized the bed is way too high with both the mattress as box springs.

    1. Hi, yes this one has a box spring underneath it. It didn't come with boards as support so this particular bed needs a box spring.

Just trying to go figure out if I need to get boards the go across or possibly one of those bunkie boards.
