Life's a beach

Toady I'm reminiscing about our warm beach vacation in Montauk.

The house we stayed in was really cute and full of great style. Unfortunately, I did not capture all of it with my camera but did manage to snap a few pics, especially of the entryway, which was full of beachy charm.

The upstairs had this balcony and view of the lake.
A great place to have coffee in the morning...and a cocktail in the evening.

A few more random pictures from around the house...
Again, there was a lot more to show but I was on major vacation mode and lazily never got around to snapping more pics!

Thanks for visiting :)

Chalk it up

There's a new addition to our kitchen nook shelves, thanks to Jennifer from Handmade by Jennifer Chase.

She recently sent me this monogram chalk print from her Etsy shop and I knew I had just the place for it.

I've put it on one of the kitchen built-in shelves framed in this wooden garage sale frame.
The glass broke but I like it better without it.
It almost makes the print look like a real chalkboard.

Apparently I have an affinity for chalkboard (maybe it's the teacher in me?) as our pantry and our kitchen door are sporting some chalkboard as well.

Below are a few other favorites of mine from her shop:

I like this one for a gallery wall in a foyer like my friend Melissa's house.

Personalized Coral & Mint Wreath Print

These two would be cute in a nursery or play room:

Have a great night!

Is it really October?

So we recently returned from a nice long week away at the beach. The weather was perfection (minus one rainy day that we made the most of by spending it at the wineries) and having quality time together was the best.

The house we stayed in (I shared a few peeks here) was so cute, it made me want to re-decorate our whole house. I took a bunch of pictures but I have misplaced my USB cord to upload them to share (boo-hoo). A new one has been ordered so as soon as it arrives, I'll share some more shots of the house.

Anyway, I think the mild weather at the beach tricked me into thinking it was still summer because I was shocked to realize it's October this week and officially fall.

I haven't really begun decorating for fall yet (oops).
I seriously feel so behind, it just might be Christmas by the time I get around to it
(kidding...I hope).
While I get my act together, I'm sharing some fall looks around our house from last year (just click on the descriptions to be taken to the post).

I can't wait to get started on adding some fall looks around our house.

P.S.
I was sort of M.I.A. this past week on the blog.
It was a nice break and I am going to take on a slower pace for a while. After posting every other day for the past 16 months, I'm feeling a tad burned out and plan on one or two posts a week. Hopefully you still drop by to see what's going on over here!

Thanks :)

One way to slice it: an easy DIY wreath alternative

We are really enjoying our time at the beach (will share pics of the house we are staying in soon) so I'm just popping in to share my latest post on My Daily Bubble.
Check it out here!

Have a great rest of the week!

Morning!
I'm taking a time-out for a few days to enjoy some downtime at the beach with friends and family.

Let's get personal

Morning!
Today I'm sharing a few deals from Jane.com that can be personalized with your monogram or name.
Check 'em out before they sell out:

Handmade Monogram Initial Necklace

Okay, so it's not even Halloween yet but it's hard not to get a head start on Christmas when there are labels as cute as these:

Set of 60 Gift Labels

I love these mugs.
They sort of remind me of something you would find at Anthropologie.

Custom Floral Name Mugs

I just ordered this in the tortoise.
I'm always digging for my keys so I'm hoping this keychain will help me find them more easily.

Monogrammed Keychains

Personalized Return Address Stamps

I like the idea of keeping one of these large tote bags in the trunk of the car to hold miscellaneous objects (dog leash, reusable grocery bags, extra diapers, etc.)

Personalized Extra Large Tote Bags

Enjoy your day!

Figuring out the family room

About a month ago, I shared our plan to refresh our family room by selling all of the stuff we felt "eh" about (which was practically everything) and starting new.

We were left with this (a whole lot of nothing):

The room is still looking like that today but some plans are in the works.

As I did with our master bedroom and Charlie's nursery, I've created a mood board to help figure out my vision for the family room:

I don't horseback ride or live on a farm, but lately I've been loving horse paintings like the one in this picture below:

Rachel Halvorson Designs

So, I found these two affordable versions below and hope to use something like them in the room above the fireplace:

We will need some throw pillows on the couch but I'm considering buying fabric by the yard and sewing them into pillow covers:

We already purchased this couch during one of Pottery Barn's upholstery sales.
It felt very weird to buy a couch in a store versus finding one secondhand but there's a first time for everything!
I can't wait to plop down on the chaise in front of the fire this winter.
Sounds cozy, doesn't it?

6. rug

This coffee table is another piece we already have. It was a floor model marked down almost 50%. Buying floor models like we did with our kitchen table is a great way to save some money.

An armchair similar to the one below is another item we already have for this room. We picked up ours from a garage sale for just $150!

I'm really looking forward to getting this room started this fall and will share the progress.
