Snug as a bug in a rug

Well, I hoped to have our bedroom complete before baby arrives and even though he isn't here quite yet, I definitely don't foresee us completing this room before then.
That's okay though.
I'm learning to cut myself a break when it comes to our to-do list and having it all perfectly complete.
Perfect is over-rated anyway, right?

So, even though our bedroom isn't finished, we are one step closer since I finally found a rug for the room.

I bought it from Rugs Usa, which has ridiculous coupon codes sometimes up to 80% off (my rug was 70% off), making the prices really affordable.
Where else can you get an 8 x 10 rug for under $200?

It's not the snuggliest of rugs but it isn't crazy uncomfortable either.

If you are in search of a rug, it's worth checking out Rugs Usa.
They have pretty much any rug in any color in any size!

So, what's left for this room?

1. We need to paint (as well as pick a color).
Not the wall that we planked but the other 3 walls as well as freshen up all of the trim and woodwork.

2. I want to hang some window treatments and have been toying with the idea of making some out of painter's drop cloth like these.

3. We need an armoire or long dresser of some sort for one of the walls not pictured below.
Chris may build one or we might try to find one at a tag sale.

A quick thanks to Kammy's Korner for featuring our DIY changing table this week!

Have a great day :)

Knock it off!

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about our West Elm island turned kitchen table and how I was waiting on chairs that I recently ordered to arrive.

I really loved the Pottery Barn Tolix cafe chair but if you know me, there's no way I was willing to pay $269 a chair. I love you PB, but come on!
So after some hunting, I found this look-a-like on Overstock for a fraction of the cost.
Can you tell the difference?

Here they are around the table:

Saving money and still getting the look you want is the best feeling!

Have a great day :)

Deck the walls

As I've been adding the finishing touches to our nursery, like hanging artwork, I've been scoping out Etsy for some affordable finds.

Here are a few that I've come across that are cute for all different style nurseries:

Gingiber

Gathered Nest Designs

Just Bunch

Why not a llama chewing gum?

Water In My Paint

This would be fun in a mod nursery:

Little Design Haus

Mira Greetings

These elephants with balloons are soft and sweet:

The Daisy Fields

For a nautical nursery (like ours):

The Daisy Fields

Sugar Fresh

So many choices and only so much wall space!

Taking shelfies

Cheesy post title, sorry!
Anyway, the built-in shelves next to our pantry and fridge got a new look recently as I did some rearranging of accessories. I try to do that every now and then to keep things looking fresh and new.

Here's what it was looking like last summer:

And here is what it looks like now (you can see I've been getting better at using this camera):

This bowl was originally in the kitchen nook but I've moved it over here.

I picked up these succulents from one of my favorite places on earth, Trader Joe's, for just a few bucks each. Despite purchasing them over a month ago, I've somehow managed to keep them alive (doesn't happen very often in this house).

I switched out the pitcher that was on this shelf and put this wood and tin drawer organizer from Home Goods here. It's cute and functional as it keeps all of our small "junk" organized.

It didn't come with anything in the little slots so using an ink pad, I filled each slot with a paper I stamped with a number stamp.

Thank you for stopping by!

Nursery progress: a tiny table for two

Lately I've been feeling like time is not on my side as the countdown until baby arrives is only a few weeks away (ah!) and there is still a lot left on my to-do list.
But I've been trying to remind myself that it is okay if not every little thing in the nursery and the rest of the house is perfectly complete (he won't know the difference after all).
It does feel good though to have this little corner of the room finished:

I picked up the table and chairs for just $15 from the same garage sale where I found the art that I hung above our bed and the nightstands in the nursery (makes waiting in line in the cold totally worth it). They were originally a dingy yellow so we spray painted them white (of course I forgot to take a before picture).

My mom sewed the seat cushions (still banking on her teaching me how to sew this summer) out of pillow shams I originally bought for our bedroom but ended up not using. They were final sale and I couldn't return them so I was happy to re-purpose the shams in this room.

As for the dolphin toy, it was a DIY project my mom surprised me with inspired after this RH Baby & Child toy! She made the base from a kitchen cutting board and added wheels and a rope. If that's not crafty, I don't know what is!

I hope your enjoy your Sunday!
